In his will of 1714, the Reverend James Pierpont (1659-1714) of New Haven gave eight acres to his neighbors in the Northeast Parish, as North Haven was called "provided those neighbors will set their meeting house there and make their training and burying there." North Haven has a growing commercial, retailing and manufacturing base which employs approximately 12,640 people. There are more than 75 manufacturing and commercial firms in North Haven, 40 of which are assessed at over $1,000,000 [1]. North Haven has five industrial parks containing 490 acres, and hosts such corporate tenants as Quebecor/Northeast Graphics and Marlin Firearms. North Haven is also a division headquarters for surgical device-maker Covidien. The town has a relatively large parks system. Housing stock is diversified. North Haven High School

A new building for the high school started construction in early 2004, with the finalized building ready for the 2005-2006 school year. The school building features suitable classrooms with interactive and advanced technology as well as updated computer systems. Notable facilities include the extravagant, acoustic-friendly auditorium, multi-functional gymnasium, sleek and comfortable cafeteria, and an inviting library that includes 10 Dell PCs and 8 Mac computers in the main library wing. Within the library, there is a Mac Lab that has about 25, wide screen Mac computers. Distributed in almost every classroom are Smart Boards that have a touch-screen interface that allows teachers as well as students to control the board and create various functions. A projector is connected to the teacher's lap top which enables the image of the computer's desktop to be delineated on the Smart Board screen; thus, allowing a blown-up visual to be accessed by students in a helpful, learned way.

The expansive, impressively constructed building has three main floors. Second and third floors are devoted to and comprise the subjects of English, Foreign Language, and History on the second floor - while Science and Math classes are found on the third floor. The school library and media center are on the second floor. Labs for biology, anatomy, marine biology, and principles of science are set up with state-of-the-art science utilities. The Math rooms also have a range of sub-sections. For example, the Computer Science room is located in the West division of the third floor which has over 25 Dell computers. The first floor is home to the auditorium, gym and weight-training room, locker rooms, administrative offices, lunch cafeteria, courtyard, business classes, the art wing, and band/chorus rooms.

North Haven Drama Cooperative

Since 1998, the North Haven Drama Cooperative has produced a series of musicals each school year. In 1998, the first play put on by the Middle School was "Annie". The show integrated students in 5th grade as well as 4th graders, who wished to participate in the special chorus group. In 1999, "The Wizard of Oz" was produced; in the year 2000, "Bye Bye Birdie"; in 2001, "The Music Man"; in 2002 "Hello Dolly"; in 2003, a second production of "Annie" was put on; in 2004, "Meet Me In St. Luis"; in 2005, a second production of "The Wizard of Oz" was produced; in 2006, "The Sound of Music"; in 2007, and the most recent show, "Fiddler on the Roof" was produced.

All shows featured a double cast. The two casts performed on a four-day basis, with the first cast on the first and third performance days, and the second cast on the second and last performance days. Now in production, "Beauty and the Beast" will be put on in the year 2008 by the North Haven High School. The cast has already been chosen and there is no double casting. There will still be the four-day performances including one matinée show. The cast includes high school students only, with the middle school director shifting schools. While the NH Drama Cooperative produced shows at the middle school, the high school had a senior-class production as well as the Drama Club plays.
