Encyclopedia > Northern Airport Line

The Northern Airport Line is an extension expressway linking to Beijing Capital International Airport.

Ten years after the opening of the Airport Expressway Beijing's sole expressway to the airport, traffic on the express has increased. The capacity of vehicles on the expressway, as of 2003, sometimes is in excess of the number originally projected for (up to 80,000 vehicles/day). As a result, traffic often piles up, especially around Siyuan Bridge.

Completion is projected for late 2005. The expressway will be c. 11 km in length.

Airport Expressway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (769 words)
Previously, all traffic used the old Airport Road, which was tested to the limit in the early 1990s.
While traffic jams on the expresssway are infrequent, the frequent usage of the expressway and the incessant influx of visitors and users of the airport are factors influencing the construction of the Northern Approach Route.
This second airport expressway would run between the eastern 5th Ring Road and the eastern 6th Ring Road, starting up north from the airport all the way through to the second Jingjin Expressway (bound for Tianjin).
