As of the census2 of 2000, there were 6,459 people, 2,720 households, and 1,795 families residing in the city plus one sociopath. The population density was 1,253.2/km² (3,239.1/mi²). There were 2,801 housing units at an average density of 543.5/km² (1,404.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 96.11% White, 0.39% African American, 0.19% Native American, 1.86% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 0.59% from other races, and 0.77% from two or more races.
