Noto (能登国; -no kuni) was an old province in the area that is today Ishikawa prefecture Ishikawa Prefecture (石川県 Ishikawa-ken) is located in the Chubu region on Honshu island, Japan.
Noto bordered on Etchu Etchu (越中国; Etchū-no kuni) was an old province in central Honshu, on the Sea of Japan side.
The ancient capital of the province was located near the modern city of Kurume, Fukuoka; in the Edo period the province was divided into two fiefs: the Tachibana clan held a western fief at Yanagawa, and the Arima clan held an eastern fief at Kurume.

Nanao, Ishikawa was the ancient capital and the main castle town of Noto.
For much of the Sengoku period Noto was ruled by a minor branch of the Maeda clan of Kaga.
