The Notwist is a German indie rock band, but they have been very strongly influenced by the electronica scene. Their most recent album, "Neon Golden" (released on Domino Records) put them on the map for American listeners, with its heartfelt sentiment and catchy tunes.
The group has been remixed by Four Tet, Manitoba, Console, Loopspool, and others. Singer Markus Acher collaborated with Anticon rapper/producer Alias on the song "Unseen Sights," an effort, that while not considered to be among either artist's best work, shows a suprising musical breadth for both artists.
The Notwist already sounds good on disc, where their production style shines and, like a pint of Ben n’ Jerry’s alongside a pint of beer, is ridiculously good.
Their live show is what allows the Notwist to reserve a place within the halls of rock ‘n’ roll.
Throughout the night, the Notwist used elements of shoegazing, hardcore, and dub in their noodling, proving that when it comes down to it, if you wanna rock you gotta know your roots.
