Novo Mesto with Krka river Novo Mesto (Slovenian: Novo mesto; German: Rudolfswert or Neustadtl) is a one of the eleven town municipalities in the Dolenjska region of the Republic of Slovenia. According to the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia it covers a total area of 298.5 km², and the town is considered the economic and cultural center of Lower Carniola. On 7 April 2006 it became the see city for the Roman Catholic diocese of Novo Mesto, which is a suffragan of the archdiocese of Ljubljana.
