Nuclear Assault is a thrash metal band formed in 1984. As a bass player, Dan Lilker left Anthrax after performing on their album Fistful of Metal. He left Anthrax in search of more aggressive music to play and founded Nuclear Assault with vocalist and guitarist John Connelly, who was also a member of Anthrax for a short time. Guitarist Mike Bogush and drummer Scott Duboys (later of Cities, Cycle Sluts From Hell and Warrior Soul and cousin of heavy metal manager Eric Greif) recorded on the first two demos which included tracks such as Stranded in Hell, The Plague and the infamous Hang the Pope. The group's first live performance was at the Union Jack in South River, New Jersey in late 1984. Mike Bogush was later replaced by Anthony Bramante. Anthony's first live performance with the group was at the legendary L'amours in Brooklyn, New York in April of 1985. Not long after that gig Scott left and was replaced by drummer Glenn Evans. After recording the "game over" album on april 1986 combat records signed the band for a multi-album deal. First fruit of this would be the release of game over and a European tour with Agent Steel and Atomkraft.Feeling limited on combat, nuke signed with miles Copeland and I.r.s records for 1988's " survive". The album hit the billboard at 125 and with heavy MTV suport for there first video "brainwashed" nuke set off on a 180 date world tour thru the u.s and Europe first supporting slayer then headlining with brits acid reign in tow. The next years "handle with care" would be the bands peek. More intensive touring followed , this time including japan and nuke were rising to the top of there game. In a nod to motor head the band released there first live album "live at hammersmith" in 1990 but all was not well in the salt's camp. After the release of Out of Order bassist Lilker left to pursue Brutal Truth in 1992. The band released one more album without him before breaking up in 1995. They reunited for one gig in 1997 and once again parted ways. Nuclear Assault reformed again in 2002 and released a live album (Alive Again) and a new studio album (Third World Genocide).
