Obetz is a village located in Franklin County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 3,977. The community was formed in 1838 as a railroad junction, and incorporated in 1928.

Obetz is located at 39°52'36" North, 82°56'30" West (39.876763, -82.941801)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 9.8 km˛ (3.8 mi˛). 9.8 km˛ (3.8 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,977 people, 1,488 households, and 1,104 families residing in the village. The population density is 407.3/km˛ (1,055.3/mi˛). There are 1,561 housing units at an average density of 159.9/km˛ (414.2/mi˛). The racial makeup of the village is 93.71% White, 2.89% African American, 0.70% Native American, 0.15% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.58% from other races, and 1.94% from two or more races. 1.48% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 1,488 households out of which 37.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.4% are married couples living together, 14.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.8% are non-families. 20.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.67 and the average family size is 3.07.


In the village the population is spread out with 27.9% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 33.8% from 25 to 44, 20.7% from 45 to 64, and 8.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 95.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.4 males.


The median income for a household in the village is $45,000, and the median income for a family is $47,271. Males have a median income of $35,342 versus $25,342 for females. The per capita income for the village is $17,385. 6.4% of the population and 5.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 5.9% of those under the age of 18 and 14.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
