In astronomy, an octaeteris is the period of eight solar years after which the moon phase occurs on the same day of the year plus one or two days.
This period is also in a very good sychronicity with five Venusian visibility cycles (the Venusian synodic year) and thirteen Venusian revolutions around the sun (Venusian sidereal year). This means, that if Venus is visible beside the moon, after eight years the two will be again close together near the same date of the calendar.
Octaeteris, also known as Oktaeteris, was first published by the ancient Greeks. They denoted it as 2923.5 days at best, which is 1.5 days more than 8 Julian calendar years.
Octaeteris is so typical and short enough in repeat, that our early ancestors may have been aware of it (maybe without detailed counting) perhaps thousands of years ago, so that finally the builders of the Torah were ready to use a double Octaeteris, i.e.
Today we have evidence, that the Octaeteris was known in numbers to the Greeks, Jews and Babylonians in the 1st Millennia BC and that the Jews did use the Octaeteris for their calendars for timekeeping until AD 360, when Hillel II.
Though, if one Octaeteris is set virtually equal to two Octaeteris cycles and vice versa the "one year" that Abraham and Sara may wait for Isaak is interpreted as half a moon cycle...
