Guide to Attractions in Thyholm District (2160 words)
When the sea broke through the isthmus Aggertangen in 1825, Oddesund became the umbilical cord for traffic connecting Thyland and Hardsyssel, and the connection across the narrow sound therefore became a bottleneck on the major West Jutland trading route from Thy to Germany, rendering the old-fashioned rowing boat ferry service inadequate.
Walking along the beach from Oddesund in a northwesterly direction along the reclaimed lake Odby Sø, a distinctive cliff is reached stretching from here to the north.
Tambohuse, Gravgård, Hindsels and Oddesund were all involved from the start, but gradually the traffic concentrated around Tambosund, where a wharf was built on both sides of the sound a little south of the present dam.
