The Office of Justice Programs (OJP) is the branch of the United StatesDepartment of Justice that focuses on crime prevention through research & technology development, assistance to state and local law enforcement and criminal justice agencies through grants, and assistance to crime victims. The major bureaus within include the National Institute of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), Office of Juvenile Justice & Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), and the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC). OJP is headed by Regina B. Schofield, who was confirmed Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Justice Programs (OJP) on June 8, 2005. OJP partners with federal, state, and local agencies, and national and community-based organizations, including faith-based organizations, to develop, operate, and evaluate a wide range of criminal and juvenile justiceprograms.
OJP is headed by an Assistant Attorney General who maintains responsibility for overall management and oversight of OJP, setting policy and ensuring that OJP policies and programs reflect the priorities of the President, the Attorney General, and the Congress.
OJP’s bureaus include the Bureau of Justice Assistance, the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the National Institute of Justice, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, and the Office for Victims of Crime.
Office of the Assistant Attorney General (OAAG) is responsible for the overall management and oversight of OJP.
