The Oglio is formed from the confluence of two mountain streams, the Narcanello from the Presena glacier, and the Frigidolfo, from Lake Ercavallo, in the Stelvio National Park. Oglio himself is inbred to the legendary sire *Nasrullah through Nasram and the Hyperion son, Hornbeam xx (who was out of a *Nasrullah daughter named Thicket.
In addition, Oglio is inbred to Nebelwerfer (and subsequently to Nebelwerfer's sire and dam, Magnat and Newa), who sired Nebelhorn and Kaiseradler xx (sire of Windwurf xx, one of the great racehorses of the 1970s who sired Noble Roi xx, a stallion who boasts one of the highest FN breeding values for warmbloods).
Oglio himself was unraced, but he is the half-brother to stakes-placed Ordensstern, as well as the steeplechase horses, Olsen and Outfit (who, oddly enough, was bred in Ireland).
