"Anybody who could turn Lot's wife into a pillar of salt, incinerate Sodom and Gomorrah and make it rain for forty days and forty nights has got to be a fun guy."
When God appears to an assistant grocery manager, Jerry Landers (Denver), as a good natured old man, the Almighty selects him as his messenger for the modern world. What follows is Landers' life getting turned upside down as theologians try to discredit him. Landers meets with God several other times throughout the course of the story, gaining advice and insight from the Almighty.
OH, GOD!: Jerry Landers (a terrifically surprising John Denver) is an average guy in every sense of the word.
First, God must convince Jerry that he really is whom he claims to be; as Jerry grow closer and closer to him, he starts growing apart from his family--his wife, played by Teri Garr, thinks he has lost all his marbles.
God returns to Earth to reunite an advertising man and his real estate saleswoman wife who are separated.
