Oikoumene, from the GreekΟικουμένη, which is the present participle of the verb Οικώ, meaning to inhabit.
Oikoumene usually refers to the part of the Earth that is inhabited, by all men or by only a subset of men. Often it referred to the lands inhabited by Greeks, excluding therefore the lands inhabited by Barbarians.
In the new testament Oikoumene is used to refer to the future kingdom of Christ (the world to come), as in Hebrews 2.5: For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak.
Oikoumene Dyson predates the emergence of the sephirotic empires.
Communion Empai mediators, the Oikoumene intelligence was encouraged to adopt a more progressive sentient rights policy to eir charges, and a number of transapientech "skypalaces" were set aside, both for habitat dwellers who had progressed past the limits of their environment, and for visitors from the rest of the civilized galaxy.
For the rest of the galaxy, it remains one of the wonders of the universe, and the first of the great habitable dyson swarms that were to enable such vast population and living space in the terragen sphere.
