Oilton is a census-designated place located in Webb County, Texas, United States. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 310.

Geography

Oilton is located at 27°28'8" North, 98°58'33" West (27.468979, -98.975739)¹.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 2.2 km² (0.8 mi²). 2.2 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 310 people, 89 households, and 71 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 142.5/km² (371.1/mi²). There are 124 housing units at an average density of 57.0/km² (148.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 72.58% White, 1.61% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 20.65% from other races, and 5.16% from two or more races. 93.55% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 89 households out of which 50.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.2% are married couples living together, 20.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20.2% are non-families. 19.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.48 and the average family size is 4.06.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 39.7% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 23.9% from 25 to 44, 17.1% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 28 years. For every 100 females there are 81.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 78.1 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $20,625, and the median income for a family is $21,964. Males have a median income of $24,375 versus $18,750 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $7,890. 32.1% of the population and 29.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 37.2% of those under the age of 18 and 16.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
