Óin is a name of two fictional characters of J. R. R. Tolkien's fantasy world of Middle-earth.

Óin was the son of Glóin, and succeeded his father as King of Durin's folk, reigning from 2385 to 2488 Third Age. He lived with his kindred in the Ered Mithrin, and saw the takeover of Moria by Orcs, which had multiplied by then as a result of Sauron's growing presence in the Mirkwood.

Preceded by:
Glóin
Kings of Durin's folk Followed by:
Náin II

A much later Óin accompanied Thorin Oakenshield on his quest in The Hobbit. He was the son of Gróin, the grandson of Borin, the younger son of King Náin II, and so could claim direct descent from Durin the Deathless himself. Glóin, another of Thorin's companions, was his brother. Óin was later lost when he journeyed with Balin to reclaim Moria.

OIN Galicia Guide | Spain (869 words)
The reason Oin is mentioned here is not because of any hidden importance or historical relevance, but simply because it is typical of the many small towns and villages you will pass on a typical country drive in Galicia.
Oin is really nothing more than a little village straddling the road to Padron, but with a couple of bars and a mixture of traditional style houses and an old church it has all the "wish list" items of the perfect Galician village.
Oin is in a bit of a valley and as we looked back towards our incoming route we were faced with lush green hills and mountains and we realized why our ears had "popped" during the descent.
Dwarves (7021 words)
