Oklahoma County is a county located in the state of Oklahoma. As of 2000, the population is 660,448. Its county seat is Oklahoma City6. Oklahoma County is at the heart of the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Area and is the most populous and diverse county in the state.
Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,860 km˛ (718 mi˛). 1,837 km˛ (709 mi˛) of it is land and 24 km˛ (9 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 1.28% water.

Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 660,448 people, 266,834 households, and 170,773 families residing in the county. The population density is 360/km˛ (931/mi˛). There are 295,020 housing units at an average density of 161/km˛ (416/mi˛). The racial makeup of the county is 70.44% White, 15.03% Black or African American, 3.42% Native American, 2.81% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 4.36% from other races, and 3.87% from two or more races. 8.68% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 266,834 households out of which 30.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.30% are married couples living together, 13.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.00% are non-families. 30.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.41 and the average family size is 3.02.
In the county, the population is spread out with 25.60% under the age of 18, 10.90% from 18 to 24, 30.00% from 25 to 44, 21.40% from 45 to 64, and 12.20% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 94.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.80 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $35,063, and the median income for a family is $42,797. Males have a median income of $31,660 versus $24,279 for females. The per capita income for the county is $19,551. 15.30% of the population and 11.70% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 21.70% of those under the age of 18 and 8.60% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
