The town Old Aberdeen was erected into a burgh of barony on 26 December 1489, and incorporated into Aberdeen by Act of Parliament in 1891. The area is a conservation area with typically granite buildings in keeping with Aberdeen itself. Cobbles line some of the streets. Many tourists are attracted to the most charming part of Aberdeen. Not far from a sandy bay at the North Sea, and on the south banks of the River Don, it is has a good location. The hill of Spital is to the South by 1/2 mile. It is home to the University of Aberdeen. This University was the result of the amalgamation of the King's College in Old Aberdeen and the Marischal College in the city centre.
