Old Government House is the official residence of the Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick. The building was constructed between 1826 and 1828 initially for the Lieutenant-Governor and Governor of New Brunswick. The building is made from quarried sandstone and is located along the St. John River in Fredericton. The current Lieutenant-Governor resides on the third floor while the first two are open to tours. From 1896 to 1900, it served as a school for the hearing impaired, a military barracks during World War 1 and as a hospital after that war. The Old State House, the oldest surviving public building in Boston, was built in 1713 to house the government offices of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
The Old State House, operated by The Bostonian Society and owned by the City of Boston, is a site within the Boston National Historical Park and one of the museums on the Freedom Trail.
With the Old State House faced with the threat of dismantling and movement to Chicago, The Bostonian Society is founded to preserve the building.

The first Government House, the "Government Hut" was constructed of timber slabs, wattle and daub, a thatched roof, calico ceiling, and external stone chimneys.
Government House is thus probably the second oldest continuously occupied house in the State, after a small cottage in Pennington Terrace, North Adelaide, which was first occupied in mid-1839.
The old stone wall on the western boundary was demolished in 1926 and replaced by a timber fence, which in turn was replaced by a tubular steel fence in 1988.
