Old Mill Creek is a village located in Lake County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 251.


Geography

Old Mill Creek is located at 42°25'19" North, 87°58'57" West (42.421820, -87.982511)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 26.5 km˛ (10.2 mi˛). 26.2 km˛ (10.1 mi˛) of it is land and 0.3 km˛ (0.1 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 1.17% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 251 people, 98 households, and 68 families residing in the village. The population density is 9.6/km˛ (24.8/mi˛). There are 104 housing units at an average density of 4.0/km˛ (10.3/mi˛). The racial makeup of the village is 87.25% White, 2.39% African American, 0.00% Native American, 6.37% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.20% from other races, and 2.79% from two or more races. 2.39% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 98 households out of which 31.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.2% are married couples living together, 6.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.6% are non-families. 23.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.56 and the average family size is 3.09.


In the village the population is spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 35.5% from 25 to 44, 27.5% from 45 to 64, and 7.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 96.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 103.2 males.


The median income for a household in the village is $82,426, and the median income for a family is $92,529. Males have a median income of $50,208 versus $41,250 for females. The per capita income for the village is $43,314. 2.7% of the population and 0.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 0.0% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

The village of Old Mill Creek was incorporated in 1959.
Concerned with the continued, rapid expansion of nearby Lindenhurst and Gurnee, residents of Millburn, which was then still unincorporated, looked to Old Mill Creek's strict zoning laws to protect Millburn's country atmosphere.

The mill built by Markle, though not a very extensive affair as compared with some of the modern establishments of to-day, was in those times an institution.
