Old swan is at the centre of the borough with links to all parts of the city and outside. It has a collection of clothes and food shops along Prescot Road serving local residents, also known as the A57, that runs from the city centre. The A57 road passes through Kensington and Fairfield prior to running through Old Swan and then through Knotty Ash (famous for its comedy clown Ken Dodd) towards Prescot and St Helens. Housing in the district is mostly in densely-packed 'two up, two down' terraces. These houses are affordable and are ideal for first time buyers as most are in excellent condition and range from 75k to 130k in value.
