Oleksander Omelchenko was a candidate in the 2004 Ukrainian presidential election, nominated by the "Unity" party, which he chairs. He has been mayor of Kyiv since 1999. He is the President of Association of the cities of Ukraine, the president of Ukrainian Hockey Federation. He is the only candidate for President whose son is a deputy of Ukrainian parliament. His program includes the urgent withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Iraq.
