Olivarez is a census-designated place located in Hidalgo County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 2,445.


Geography

Olivarez is located at 26°14'11" North, 97°59'37" West (26.236325, -97.993523)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 9.6 km˛ (3.7 mi˛). 9.6 km˛ (3.7 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,445 people, 511 households, and 481 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 255.8/km˛ (663.1/mi˛). There are 562 housing units at an average density of 58.8/km˛ (152.4/mi˛). The racial makeup of the CDP is 95.05% White, 0.04% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.78% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 3.48% from other races, and 0.65% from two or more races. 97.22% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 511 households out of which 70.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 77.9% are married couples living together, 12.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 5.7% are non-families. 4.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 1.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 4.76 and the average family size is 4.88.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 41.7% under the age of 18, 13.0% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 13.7% from 45 to 64, and 4.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 22 years. For every 100 females there are 101.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 99.4 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $28,636, and the median income for a family is $26,641. Males have a median income of $20,809 versus $15,469 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $7,294. 41.1% of the population and 36.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 49.5% of those under the age of 18 and 9.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Her intent was to continue to foster and encourage the child's relationship with his father by giving Echols increased amounts of visitation, reducing her own summer visitation, and paying a majority of the costs incurred in transporting the child to visit his father.
Olivarez did not argue at trial that the 1997 order had become unworkable or inappropriate under the existing circumstances, and the district court made no finding to that effect.
