Response & Success This adaptation of Oliver Twist is not generally thought of as a success at the box office or with critics. It has a freshness rating on the Rotten Tomatoes website of 58%, 74 out of 128 reviewers finding it an agreeable film, 54 reviewers denouncing it as deficient, earning it a rating of 6.2/10. One of its main problems is generally thought to be that the creators seemed to overlook the fact that a successful adaptation of the Dickens' novel had already been made as part of a British TV serial in 1999, only 5 years previous to this adaptation (see Oliver Twist miniseries).
