OlteniĊ£a - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (193 words)
Oltenita stands just across the Danube from the Bulgarian city Tutrakan (Turtucaia, in Romanian).
During the Russian-Turkish war of 1877, Oltenita was an important crossing point into Bulgaria for Romanian troops called to the aid of the Russian Army which was held back in the siege of Pleven (Plevna) stronghold.
The spot was also chosen by allied Prussian and Bulgarian troops for the invasion of Romania from the South.
