Olympique Lyonnais (sometimes abbreviated to OL or '"Lyon'") is a French football club founded in 1950.[1] They play their home matches at the Stade Gerland in Lyon. OL came into existence after a disagreement between the rugby and football sections of the multisports club Lyon Olympique, which has existed since 1899. The football section split from the rest of the club and chose a new name: Olympique Lyonnais.
