The Ombai Strait (Bahasa Indonesia: Selat Ombai) is the strait which separates the Alor Archipelago from the islands of Wetar, Atauro, and Timor in the Lesser Sunda Islands. Wetar, the Alor Archipelago, and the western part of Timor are part of the province of East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, while Atauro and the eastern part of Timor comprise the nation of East Timor. The Wetar Strait (Indonesian: Selat Wetar) separates the eastern part of the island of Timor from the island of Wetar.
To the west is Atauro, and beyond it the Ombai Strait; while to the east is the southern part of the Banda Sea and the southernmost of the Maluku Islands.
At its narrowest point, the strait is 36 km across.

Last night the wind had increased to a good breeze and we made it clear of the Ombai Strait, or so we thought.
I initially was hoping it was a wind line, however it soon became apparent that it was the current going in the opposite direction to the swell and kicking it up.
Sure enough the GPS was recording that we were heading back towards the Strait at a handsome speed of 2 knots.
