Moderate quakes hit northeast, southwest Iran (173 words)
The institute said in a statement released here on Friday that there have been no reports on possible damage to properties or casualties caused by Semnan earthquake.
It also reported another tremor measuring 3.5 on the open-ended Richter scale in suburbs of the city of Omidiyeh in the southwestern province of Khuzestan on Thursday evening.
According to the institute the Omidiyeh tremor occurred at 30.96 degrees latitude and 49.81 degrees longitude in an area near Omidiyeh.
Umidiyeh Air Base (184 words)
The 5th Tactical Air Base (N30°50'06.60" E49°32'05.70") is located outside of the city of Umidiyeh (Omidiyeh) in Southwestern Iran.
In a declassified report from 1991, the USS Midway reported that there were indications that te Iranian Air Force had based recently aquired F-7 aircrafts at Omidiyeh and may operate in SW Iran in the near future.
The F-7 is the Chinese version of the MiG-21 and could be mistaken for an Iraqi Fishbed.
