The Hotel Syracuse, also adjacent to the complex, served as the buildings' main hotel since their respective completions, but its state worsened throughout the 1990s, entering a second bankruptcy in 2001, and closing in 2004. Fear that this was hurting convention center business rekindled plans for a convention center hotel.
