Originally built in 1970, One Boston Place has been a major landmark in Boston, and home to some of the city’s most prestigious law, financial, real estate, and corporate firms.

Developed by Cabot, Cabot and Forbes, construction of Mellon Financial Center at One Boston Place began in November 1967, and the first tenants occupied the building in March 1970.

One Boston Place has a steel frame construction on a concrete over metal decking floor with a masonry core. The building has eighteen passenger elevators and one freight elevator which were fully modernized in 2005. In the fall of 2002 One Boston Place completed a six million dollar lobby renovation featuring polished green onyx, African cherry wood and mahogany. The lobby entrance features a planar glass wall system and is highlighted by four pyramid skylights spanning the entryway.

Building amenities include a security staff that is stationed at One Boston Place twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week. Additional safety features include, access card readers encoded for One Boston Place tenant badges only and state of the art CCTV monitored cameras and recording devices.

Mellon Financial, the largest tenant of One Boston Place has a full service retail bank located on the ground floor. A sundry shop is located in the main lobby and a covered walkway conveniently connects our tenants to the Pi Alley food court offering several cafes and sandwich shops as well as a side entrance to the Washington Street Parking Garage.
