Although some have succeeded in escaping the vortex's powerful grasp, many both willingly and unwillingly succumb to it. Oneonta, Kentucky, is located on the banks of the Ohio River in northern Kentucky approximately twelve miles from Covington.
In Alabama, Oneonta is said to mean "the place we seek."
