Onyx was a Formula One constructor from Britain. They participated in 26 Grands Prix, entering a total of 52 cars. They achieved 1 podium with Stefan Johanssonand scored 6 championship points. They were founded by Mike Earle and later purchased by [[Swiss]Switzerland] businessman Peter Monteverdi. Their second season is regarded by many as a shambles, with no points and several organisational mistakes, including fitting a differential the wrong way round at one point, and even taking spares from Monteverdi's clooection of sports cars. Earle later founded the Arena (motorsport) team which has raced Honda cars in the BTCC. Initially the former F3000 teams entry into F1 was backed by Belgian Jean-Pierre van Rossem of the Moneytron investment company, however when Moneytron ran into financial difficulties during the 1989 season the team was sold.
With only small changes being made to the previous years design the team struggled to make the grid and on the few occasions it did, the lack of experienced race engineers meant the car was uncompetitive and unreliable.
The Hungarian GP was the teams final appearance before Monteverdi closed the doors.

The third race was pretty ok. We were in the top league the whole race and finish just second but the leading boat had a DNS and got disqualified, making us to the winner again!
Lidingö Runt, Stockholm: It was the first race this season, and we thought we had a pretty good chance of making a good result, even though we haven’t had so much time for training and preparation and sailing with one new team member.
We could finish the race without any injures but the boat is not particularly nice and unfortunately we lost all the positions we had managed to take during the upwind.
