The main objective for the French was to lure the Viet Minh into open battle and inflict a crushing defeat on them. However, the operation ended in failure with the French military suffering great losses and the Viet Minh had lost virtually nothing. The Viet Minh (abbreviated from Việt Nam ộc Lập ồng Minh Hội, League for the Independence of Vietnam) was formed by Ho Ngoc Lam and Nguyen Hai Than in 1941 to seek independence for Vietnam from France. ...
