The Order of the Seraphim or the Order of His Majesty the King (SwedishSerafimerorden or Kungl. Maj:ts Orden) is a Swedish Royal order of chivalry created by King Frederick I of Sweden on 23 February1748, together with the Order of the Sword and the Order of the North Star. After the reorganization of the orders in 1975 the order is only awarded to foreign heads of state etc. Since 1995 it can also be awarded to members of the royal family again. The order has only one grade and is the foremost order of Sweden. It is said that none of the orders are totally perfect; all the hierarchies thus mutually participate in a constant march, striving towards perfection.
Because although the lower orders do not participate of the higher orders per se, the illuminations of the higher orders do radiate all the way through to the lowest orders in a gradually decreasing brightness, therefore it can be said that the lower can receive the light of the higher in an indirect manner.
In the Bible, when Isaiah was purified by a Seraphim, it is not to be understood that he was in direct contact with such an immeasurably high order; what is meant is that the illuminating properties and powers of the order of the Seraphim had descended through the several intermediary orders to purify Isaiah.
The orders have an aura of being secret and in some cases this is true with the members being bound by an oath of silence.
These were the Royal Order of the Seraphim, the Royal Order of the Polar Star, the Royal Order of the North Star and the Royal Order of the Sword and Vasa.
