Ore in Sussex is a small urban area on the outskirts of Hastings that contains a small shopping centre and the Hillcrest school and community centre. It has its own railway station on the Marsh Link Line, which is also the terminus of many trains from London (via the East Coastway Line and Hastings Line).
The Sussex Mine Railroad was chartered on March 9, 1848, for the sole purpose of transporting iron ore between Andover and Waterloo.
First Mortgage Bondholders of the Sussex Railroad met at the Cochran House in Newton on December 17, 1857, and proposed a change in the management and ownership of the railroad, whereby it would come under local control and be operated and improved as a valuable adjunct to the town and county.
The Directors of the Sussex Railroad met on December 2, 1858, to elect Martin Ryerson to the board and Aaron Peck to succeed John Horton, deceased, as president.
