Oregon 99

Oregon Highway 99 is a state highway that runs between the northern and southern border of Oregon. Oregon 99W

The southern terminus of 99W is in Junction City, at the intersection with 99E and 99. 99W proceeds north from there, keeping on the west side of the Willamette River. It continues north through the western Willamette Valley, passing through the countryside (as well as the town of Monroe before entering the city of Corvallis. It continues northbound out of Corvallis through Monmouth, Rickreall, and Amity before entering the city of McMinnville. 99W goes through the city center of McMinnville; traffic generally uses Oregon Highway 18 as a bypass. Previously, 99W extended through the city of Portland (on an alignment consisting of Barbur Bvld, Front Avenue (now Naito Parkway), the Steel Bridge, and Interstate Avenue]] and reunited with 99E just south of the Oregon/Washington state line. Oregon 99E

99E also has it's southern terminus in Junction City. Almost immediately after leaving the city limits the route crosses the Willamette River, and serves Willamette Valley towns such as Harrisburg and Tangent. North of Tangent, the route enters the city of Albany and serves as a main thoroughfare through town (for about a mile, 99E shares an alignment with U.S. Highway 20. 99E remains co-signed with I-5 until Salem where is again splits off from the interstate, serving many towns in northern Marion County. (A business route through Salem consists of a section of Oregon Highway 22 and the Salem Parkway; a previous alignment of 99E along Commercial Street, Fairgrounds Road, and Portland Road is often erroneously referred to as "99E" even though it is no longer part of the Oregon State Highway System). In downtown Portland, 99E runs on the couplet of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (formerly Union Avenue) and Grand Avenue. It is the main north-south arterial through the east side of downtown. North of downtown, the 99E continues as MLK Jr. Boulevard and passes through several Northeast Portland Neighborhoods; until it's terminus at an interchange with I-5 in Delta Park, just south of the Columbia River crossing. (The interchange also involves Interstate Avenue, which was the prior route of 99W before the latter route was truncated).


Oregon 99

South of Junction City, Oregon 99 leads to Eugene, which it crosses along the east-west axis, passing the University of Oregon before rejoining Interstate 5 in southeast Eugene. From there, Oregon 99 shares much of its route with the interstate, although it frequently separates to provide surface-level access to cities and towns along the freeway, as I-5 winds its way through the "State of Jefferson". Oregon 99 provides access to towns and cities such as Cottage Grove, Drain, Sutherlin, Roseburg, Grants Pass, Medford, and Ashland.
