Encyclopedia > Origin Series

Origin Series is the official name in England for the "War of The Roses" inter-county Rugby League matches between representative teams from Yorkshire and Lancashire, the areas where the League code has traditionally been most popular.

Player eligibility for the Origin Series is based on the player's region of birth. Players born outside of Yorkshire and Lancashire are also eligible for selection, based on the region where they first played Rugby League at professional level.

"War of the Roses" games began in 1895, but ceased in 1989. They were revived in 2001 under the name of the Origin Series, inspired by the success of State of Origin matches in Australia between New South Wales and Queensland.

The Origin Series was reduced to a one-off Origin Game in 2003, and then abandoned due to apathy from Rugby League supporters.

Star Trek: The Original Series - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (3774 words)
The series was created during a time of cold war politics, and the plots of its episodes occasionally reflected this.
The original series shows encounters with other advanced spacefaring civilizations, including the Klingons and the Romulans, both of which were involved in separate "cold wars" with the Federation.
Series script editor Dorothy C. Fontana (originally Roddenberry's secretary) was also a vital part of the success of Star Trek — she edited most of the series' scripts and wrote several episodes.
Battlestar Galactica (1978 TV series) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (1064 words)
The era in which this exodus took place is never clearly stated in the series itself; however various implications on-screen suggested the series was taking place concurrently with the broadcast of the episodes.
However, the later Galactica 1980 series (which was expressly set in 1980) to some extent contradicted this.
The pilot to this series, the biggest budgeted (US$7 million) pilot ever up to that time, was originally released theatrically in Canada, Western Europe and Japan in July 1978 in an edited 125-minute version.
