Background

Oskar Saville began her career playing London venues with a local band called Seed. After playing in the London circuit for almost a year, Oskar became more enchanted with pursuing her singing career back in The U.S. and decided to return to her hometown of Chicago, where she earned her stripes as a musician the hard way, playing open mikes and teaching herself to play the guitar.


In 1998, Oskar joined the Chicago-based band Rubygrass. Subsequently, they were named the best band in Chicago at the Guinness Fleadh music festival, which featured a lineup including artists such as Wilco, The Corrs, John Lee Hooker, and Sinéad O'Connor. After four years of singing with Rubygrass, and playing venues in Chicago and New York, Oskar decided to relocate to New York City to embark on her solo career. She packed up her truck and guitar and headed east where she would soon stake her claim as a powerful solo songwriter and vocalist who win critical acclaim and comparison to the likes of Janis Joplin and Natalie Merchant. She has since relocated again to Ireland, where she lives with her husband and new baby. In 2002, 10,000 Maniacs would ask her to join their band as the lead singer. While Oskar is in full pursuit of her solo career, her love of collaboration and performing prompted her to accept the opportunity to sing with the band.
