- The first ever Survivor contestant to lay down his torch and quit (only 4 players have done this; the other 3 were Jenna Morasca, Susan Hawk, and Janu Tornell)
- The 1st (and so far, the only) male player to quit the game since Survivor's start in 2000
- The 1st player to quit at Tribal Council since Survivor's start in 2000 (only 2 players have done this; the second was Janu Tornell)
- The 3rd player to be eliminated without being voted out since Survivor's start in 2000 (the first two were Michael Skupin and Paschal English)
- The 1st player to not be allowed to have his goodbye speech aired after leaving (or posted on the official web site)
- The 1st player to not be included in the final episode remembrance ceremony
Though he appeared young and physically strong, Taylor quickly found the game too challenging and wanted to leave. His departure is considered fairly dishonorable in Survivor history as he did not have a strong reason to justify his departure, other then laziness or apathy. He recorded his goodbye speech (as is the custom for an eliminated contestant), but it was not aired during the closing credits, nor was it posted on the official Survivor web site. In addition, in the ceremony in which the final 3 remember and honor the previously voted out members while standing in front of their torches, Osten's torch was dishonorably on the ground next to a rock. The tribe members did not stop and remember him; however, the camera did fade to his torch and showed several clips.
