The silver arowana is from the Amazon. In the wild this species is well know for jumping out of the river to snatch insects off of branches. The silver arowana is not the most colorful of the arowana, but has an appeal all its own. It has long dorsal and anal fins that seem to merge with the caudal fin. It is the most graceful swimmers of the family.
In captivity you may feed the silver arowana crickets, worms, freeze dried krill, and even pellets. You will find it necessary to train the arowana to take food other than feeder fish because most fish store owners will not bother taking the time to do it and many don't know it can be done.
I have trained my silver to jump out of the water and snatch crickets off of drift wood that sticks out of the water.
You must keep at tight cover with weights on the top of the aquarium at all times. I find it benificial to lower the water level down away from the cover so that the arowana can not push it open. I use the empty space to build a small drift wood forest and dump crickets onto the wood for the arowana to hunt.
