Ottoman Bessarabia was part of the Ottoman province of Silistria (Özi) Province from 1484 to 1812. Its size varied, however by 1538, it included the towns of Akkerman (Bilhorod-Dnistrovs'kyi), Izmail, Bender (Tighina), and Kiliya. There was no official province by the name of Bessarabia under Turkish rule but the area which now approximately includes modern-day Budjak and Tighina were informally known as Bessarabia. The Ottomans devided this region into two sanjaks. One was Kiliya and the second was Akkerman (Bilhorod-Dnistrovs'kyi). Sometime between 1504 and 1538 a district of Bender (Tighina), as well as a district of Budjak are added. All four were part of Silistria (Özi)Province.
