Synopsis

The skunkette, Fifi Le Fume, is mistaken for a cat by the pet-enthusiast, Elmyra Duff. Elmyra then hatches a scheme to separate Fifi from her intolerable stench so she can have a new pet.

Summary

Fifi awakens one morning to find several strange gifts showered upon her anonymously; such as a bowl of milk on her doorstep or dozens of flea collars in her locker. Fifi finds the gifts a strange nuisance, but is aroused at the thought of having a secret admirer. She assumes her admirer is a cute boy, but is quickly horrified to discover that it is her classmate, Elmyra.

As it turns out, Elmyra is under the delusion that Fifi is actually a cat (there is that irony again), and wants to take her home as a pet. Fifi is disgusted at the thought, and refuses, in rhyme: "I may be witty, I most certainly am pretty, but I am not, I repeat, am not a kitty!" Elmyra insists once more during a basketball game in gym class, and even gives Fifi a big hug. Fifi, now frustrated, blasts Elmyra with a cloud of her stench and even goes so far as to spell out the word "skunk" with her yellow-green fumes. Elmyra, being dumb as a post, figures that a skunk is nothing but a "stinky kitty" and decides that the only way to make Fifi her pet is to remove her stink! Elmyra does some research and learns that tomato juice can rid a skunk of their odor for a period of time! A delusion is commonly defined as a fixed false belief and is used in everyday language to describe a belief that is either false, fanciful or derived from deception. ...

Elmyra plots a way to slather Fifi with tomato juice, and decides that trickery is the best method! Donning a costume of Looney Tunes character and Acme Looniversity Professor, Pepe le Pew, Elmyra goes to Fifi's home and sings "Tiptoe Through The Tulips With Me" from outside her window. Fifi is overwhelmed with desire and races outside to greet the impostor. Fifi immediately tackles Elmyra and lifts her off the ground in a cloud of stench (much to Elmyra's terror). Fifi, still unaware of Elmyra's ruse, announces, "I have always had a crush on you, like ZIS!" and proceeds to squeeze the life out of Elmyra. Elmyra, not used to being on the receiving end of so much love, struggles to break free. She eventually manages to, and quickly presents Fifi a heart-shaped box of chocolates. However, once Fifi opens the box she discovers it is filled with tomatoes! Elmyra quickly squishes all the tomatoes into Fifi, covering her in their juice and effectively nullifying her scent! Elmyra reveals her deception and Fifi, defenseless, makes a break for it! Elmyra chases Fifi into a near-by parade where they both manage to steal cars. After a short car-chase, during which she drives into a car wash which washes the tomato juice off of her and returns her stink to her, Fifi crashes into a float and decides to deal with Elmyra directly. Briefly morphing into a parody of Rambo, Fifi unleashes a machine gun-like onslaught of odor from her tail. Finally, she collapses from exhaustion. Typical American multi-bay car wash, with an automatic touchless bay at the far left and manual bays on the right. ... Elmyra, unable to smell a thing after suffering an allergic reaction to roses, snatches Fifi up by her tail and skips home with her new pet! Fifi sighs, "Zis ending stinks!" and flails back and forth as Elmyra slams her up and down.

Notes

• Stink lines can be seen coming from Fifi at the end and Elmyra is still sneezing from the roses in an earlier scene, so it's obvious that Fifi's odor returned after the car wash but Elmyra simply could not smell it after suffering an allergic reaction to the roses.

• Fifi appears in the cartoon immediately after this one, within the same episode. In this cartoon entitled "Buttering Up The Buttfields", she appears to be free from Elmyra and she has her odor. This leaves the viewers to wonder if Fifi somehow escaped Elmyra in some unknown way, being that "Buttering Up The Buttfields" comes after "Out of Odor."
