The Outboard Marine Corporation was a maker of boat motors and maintenance supplies, they also owned several lines of boats such as cris craft. They are now owned by Bombardier. Bombardier Inc. ...


These engines are also known to be very reliable in most applications, and have been favorites by fisherman and boaters for many years. They dominated the race scene in the 70's and even held many records. Mercury and OMC competed fiercly then, since then Mercury has stood alone in the race scene. They were innovative and even race an experemental rotary engine built in a joint effert with wankel. Business and quality issues took its toll on the company and they left the racing scene and almost went under. After the company was sold several times and broken up, Bombardier bought the fledgling company and is working to restore the company.

Briggs then acquired Lockwood Outboard Motor Company and negotiated a deal with Ole Evinrude which led to a deal which included Elto, Evinrude and Lockwood, which were collectively called the Outboard Motors Corporation (OMC).
OMC was deeply affected by the great depression as well as the loss of Bess Evinrude in 1933, and Ole Evinrude in 1934.
Their son Ralph, was asked to serve as OMC's president and they continued to introduce more new improvements and models.
