Oxyntomodulin is a naturally occuring hormone found in the lower intestine. It has been found to suppress appetite. A recent study has found that it can be used as a weight loss treatment.

Oxyntomodulin is a peptide product of the proglucagon gene released by the L-cells of the small intestine in response to food ingestion, the researchers wrote.
Oxyntomodulin's name derives from oxyntic cell modifying, as in acid in stomach is slightly lower.
Oxyntomodulin did not significantly affect insulin, glucose, cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein, ghrelin, or peptide YY levels, the investigators reported.
