Burchuladze emerged as winner from several vocal competitions such as Voci Verdiane of Busseto/Italy, the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and the International Luciano Pavarotti Competition.
In 1998, Paata Burchuladze became the first Georgian to be given the title of a Count by the Russian Orthodox Church and in July of the same year he received the honour of the Kammersänger title by the State Opera Stuttgart.
