Pachaiyar River originates on the eastern slopes of the Western Ghats approximately 1000 meters above sea level in the state of Tamil Nadu in southern India. It then flows in a winding course over the boundary between Cuddalore and Villupuram Taluks until in converges with the Tambaraparani River. The total length of the river from its origin to its merger with the Tamiraparani is about 32 km.[2]

Linking rivers

However, just before the Pachaiyar River enters the Bay of Bengal it is connected to the Gadilam River via a channel called "the Malattar" which carries any surplus water from the Ponnaiyar to the Godilam.[3]
