Pacitan Regency is located in SouthWest corner of East Java (Jawa Timur) Province, with Central Java Province on its West border. Located between 7.55° - 8.17° South Latitude and 110.55° - 111.25° East Longitude. The borders of Pacitan Regency are : Wonogiri Regency (Central Java) in the West, Ponorogo Regency and Wonogiri Regency in the North, Trenggalek Regency in the East, and Indonesian Ocean in the South. The area of Pacitan Regency is about 1342.42 sq. km. Most of it are mountainous and rocky, and having some rocky canyon. That kind of area covers about 88% of Pacitan Regency, and it's because Pacitan Regency located in Thousand Mountains that stretched along The Java Island. The highest mountain in Pacitan is Gunung Lima (Five Mountains) in Kebonagung District, and Gunung Gembes (Gembes Mountain) in Bandar District as the spring of Sungai Grindulu (Grindulu River).

Generally, the land in Pacitan can be divided into two categories, calcium in the South, and fertile land in the North. The land consists of lithosal association, red mediterranean lithosal, tuf and volcanic compound, reddish lithosal complex, and grey aluvial, clay sediments containing many potential minerals. Those minerals are feldspar, ball clay, bentonite, pyrophylite, calcite, gips, phosphate, silical stone, coal, dolomite, gemstone, tin, and mangan. Pacitan Regency consists 130.87 sq. km. of rice fields and 1211.55 sq. km. of dry land. According to the kind of irrigations, the rice fields can be grouped into : technical irrigation rice field = 16.06 sq. km., half technical irrigation rice field = 11.88 sq. km., simple irrigation rice field = 40.63 sq. km., and rain-dependent rice field = 62.30 sq. km.
