Padua (It. Provincia di Padova) is a province in the Veneto region of Italy. Its capital is the city of Padua.
It has an area of 2,142 sq km, and a total population of 849,857 (2001). There are 104 communes in the province (source: Italian institute of statistics Istat, see this link (http://www.upinet.it/indicatore.asp?id_statistiche=6)).

The capital of Padovaprovince, it stands on the Bacchiglione River, 40km west of Venice and 29km southeast of Vicenza, with a population of 211,985 (2004).
The botanical garden Orto Botanico di Padova was founded in 1545 as the garden of curative herbs attached to the University's faculty of medicine.
Padua is the home of Calcio Padova, a football team that plays in Italy's Serie C1 division; the Petrarca Padova rugby union team; and a volleyball club, also called Petrarca Padova, which plays in the Italian first division.
