Page and Plant is the name that Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, both formerly of Led Zeppelin, recorded and toured under in the mid-1990s. The initial plans for a reunion were made in 1993, with talk between the two of collaborating proceeding from casual small talk to an invitation to perform on MTV Unplugged. (The duo excluded John Paul Jones due to a rumored feud between him and Plant from the mid-80's). Their tour took them across the world with a lineup including Charlie Jones playing bass and percussion, Michael Lee on drums, Porl Thompson performing guitar and banjo, Najma Akhtar providing backup vocals, Jim Sutherland on mandolin and bodhrán, Nigel Eaton hurdy gurdy, and Ed Shearmur playing Hammond organ with orchestral arrangements. Afterwards, they entered the studio with legendary engineer Steve Albini to record Walking into Clarksdale, an album of entirely new material. When Jimmy Page and Robert Plant reunited in 1994 for their first full-blown project together since the break-up of Led Zeppelin in 1980, it was to be no mere trot round the block for old time's sake.
Page & Plant's "reunion" was one of prodigious logistic and aesthetic ambition.
Fiercely proud of their records, Page and Plant have always regarded the music that comes out of the studio as the starting point of a musical journey, not an ending.
