In the account of Theophanes, Papatzys was the Khazartudun of Kerch during the sojourn of Justinian II in Phanagoria. He was dispatched, along with Balgitzin, by BusirKhagan to kill Justinian in 704, after Busir was bribed by Tiberius III.
